new learning opportunities
gain leadership skills, explore Disney Imagineering
N
ew for this year are Disney Youth Education Series
programs that explore the science and creative processes
used by Walt Disney Imagineering, and help to build
leadership skills to last a lifetime.
Creating a Leadership Legacy is a three-hour leadership
experience through Disney California Adventure® Park that
enables anyone ages 12 and up to discover Walt Disney’s
“secret of making dreams come true.” Students learn how
to develop their own leadership legacy, become confident
in their ability to accomplish their goals, and be motivated
to achieve the impossible. They are challenged to discover
their personal branding and develop their core values,
have the courage to step out of their comfort zones, and
understand the importance of diversity as they explore the
Park and experience exciting attractions.

After completing Creating a Leadership Legacy,
students will be able to:
• Define likeability, leadership and legacy
• Identify core values and how to apply them
• Understand the importance of personal branding,
integrity, risk-taking, personal ownership and self-esteem
• Develop interpersonal communication and career skills,
and understand the difference between verbal and
non-verbal communication
• Learn from past leaders and build upon their experiences
Disney Youth Education Series also launched a completely
redesigned program for 2013 — The Science of Disney
Imagineering: Gravity. This program is a field extension to the
educational DVD series, “The Science of Disney Imagineering.”
This program allows students to discover how Walt Disney
Imagineers use the powers of science to develop the worldfamous Disney Theme Parks and attractions.
Throughout this three-hour program, students grades 6-8 join
a facilitator to explore how Walt Disney Imagineering uses
Newton’s Laws of Motion to create multi-sensory experiences
within the Disney Parks. Hands-on experiments challenge
students to test the force of gravity and study how combining
it with technology can create an enhanced effect.
Through an exploration of Disney’s Hollywood Studios®
in Florida, students gain a variety of invaluable learnings,
such as:
• Explore Newton’s First and Second Laws of Motion, and
the difference between balanced and unbalanced forces
• Discover that gravity accelerates all masses at the exact
same rate — even if these masses are very different
• See how Disney Imagineers combined Disney theatrics
and Newton’s Laws of Motion to create the sensations
and effects of key Theme Park attractions
creating a leadership legacy
• Explore Newton’s Second Law of Motion and how F=ma
is just one of the scientific equations behind the
excitement and thrill of Disney attractions
• Uncover some “old” science being put to work in a whole
new way
