new learning opportunities gain leadership skills, explore Disney Imagineering N ew for this year are Disney Youth Education Series programs that explore the science and creative processes used by Walt Disney Imagineering, and help to build leadership skills to last a lifetime. Creating a Leadership Legacy is a three-hour leadership experience through Disney California Adventure® Park that enables anyone ages 12 and up to discover Walt Disney’s “secret of making dreams come true.” Students learn how to develop their own leadership legacy, become confident in their ability to accomplish their goals, and be motivated to achieve the impossible. They are challenged to discover their personal branding and develop their core values, have the courage to step out of their comfort zones, and understand the importance of diversity as they explore the Park and experience exciting attractions. the science of disney imagineering: gravity After completing Creating a Leadership Legacy, students will be able to: • Define likeability, leadership and legacy • Identify core values and how to apply them • Understand the importance of personal branding, integrity, risk-taking, personal ownership and self-esteem • Develop interpersonal communication and career skills, and understand the difference between verbal and non-verbal communication • Learn from past leaders and build upon their experiences Disney Youth Education Series also launched a completely redesigned program for 2013 — The Science of Disney Imagineering: Gravity. This program is a field extension to the educational DVD series, “The Science of Disney Imagineering.” This program allows students to discover how Walt Disney Imagineers use the powers of science to develop the worldfamous Disney Theme Parks and attractions. Throughout this three-hour program, students grades 6-8 join a facilitator to explore how Walt Disney Imagineering uses Newton’s Laws of Motion to create multi-sensory experiences within the Disney Parks. Hands-on experiments challenge students to test the force of gravity and study how combining it with technology can create an enhanced effect. Through an exploration of Disney’s Hollywood Studios® in Florida, students gain a variety of invaluable learnings, such as: • Explore Newton’s First and Second Laws of Motion, and the difference between balanced and unbalanced forces • Discover that gravity accelerates all masses at the exact same rate — even if these masses are very different • See how Disney Imagineers combined Disney theatrics and Newton’s Laws of Motion to create the sensations and effects of key Theme Park attractions creating a leadership legacy • Explore Newton’s Second Law of Motion and how F=ma is just one of the scientific equations behind the excitement and thrill of Disney attractions • Uncover some “old” science being put to work in a whole new way Learn more about Creating a Leadership Legacy, The Science of Disney Imagineering: Gravity and other Disney Youth Education Series Programs by visiting DisneyYouth.com/Magazine.
