Mickey’s education adventure day 1 exploring the learning laboratory of the Disney Parks Meeting the Facilitator We sent Scholar Mickey on the field study of a lifetime with Disney Youth Education Series. Mickey first experienced the Designing a Disney Story program at Disney California Adventure® Park. Here he got an inside look at how Disney animators create full-length animated features! Receiving His Nametag Archetype Character Making sure that everyone knows his name. It’s a hero’s journey trying to figure out which Disney character matches its respective archetype. First up — meeting his facilitator for the day! Disney Animation History Walt Disney’s animation legacy is really brought to life at Disney Parks. ©Disney/Pixar Carthay Circle Geometric Shapes & Drawing Toy Story Zoetrope A visit to the Carthay Circle Restaurant reminds Scholar Mickey that “it’s kind of fun to do the impossible,” as he learns how Walt Disney’s leap into full-length animated features was realized. Beauty comes in all sizes and shapes! When asked to put together geometric shapes to draw his favorite character, Scholar Mickey couldn’t resist drawing his favorite gal pal. Scholar Mickey uncovers the animation magic performed by the strobe lights in the zoetrope with a little help from his “Toy Story” friends. Taumatrope Storyboard Bringing It All Together Exploring the early tools of animation, Scholar Mickey learns that by spinning different animated scenes he can bring motion to his drawings. It all begins with a great story! Scholar Mickey learns to map out his ideas in storyboard form, showing each scene just as he imagines it to look.
